HubSpot Data Enrichment in 2026: A Complete Guide for Sales Teams

HubSpot data enrichment fills in the fields your records are missing, so a bare name and a work email become a job title, a seniority band, a headcount, and an industry you can segment on.

Most guides stop there and hand you a list of tools. This guide covers what the built-in layer actually writes to a record, the one field it will never return, how to set it up without wrecking your reporting, what UK data protection law asks of you the moment you enrich, and how to work out whether you need a second tool at all.

Key Takeaways (TL;DR)

  • HubSpot enrichment is bundled into Core Seats and does not consume HubSpot Credits, so the budget question moved from whether to buy it to what it leaves blank.

  • The enrichable contact properties are name, job title, seniority, role, location, and a social profile URL. No email address. No phone number.

  • A contact record must already carry a business email address before HubSpot will enrich it, and personal addresses are skipped entirely.

  • Company enrichment is the stronger half, covering revenue, headcount, industry, web technologies, and total money raised.

  • Measure enrichment on the share of contacts you can actually reach, not the share of fields that came back populated.

  • B2B records decay at a published rate of 2.1% a month, so enrichment is a standing job rather than a migration task.

  • Enriching a person with data from a third party starts a clock under UK GDPR, and you have to tell that person where their data came from.

HubSpot Data Enrichment: at a Glance

Four things sit between a raw record and a booked meeting. Read down the middle column to see which of them HubSpot handles on its own.

What outbound needs from a record

Does bundled HubSpot enrichment deliver it?

What fills the gap

Company size, industry, revenue, tech used

Yes, on the company object

Nothing extra needed for most teams

Job title, seniority, function

Yes, on the contact object

Nothing extra needed

A verified work email address

No, and the record needs one before enrichment runs

A waterfall provider or an email finder

A direct dial or mobile number

No at contact level, only a company Phone number

A phone enrichment provider

Buying intent, hiring, funding, job changes

Not in the bundled layer

A signals tool or an all-in-one sales tool

The verdict is in the third and fourth rows. HubSpot completes records you can already reach and does almost nothing for records you cannot, which is the opposite of what most teams assume they switched on.

What Is HubSpot Data Enrichment?

HubSpot data enrichment is the built-in process that compares the records in your Smart CRM against HubSpot's own dataset and writes back the fields that are missing or stale.

According to HubSpot's enrichment documentation, contact enrichment matches on first name, last name, and work email address, while company enrichment matches on company domain alone. It runs in two ways, i.e., manually on a record or a selection, and automatically on every new record once a Super Admin turns it on.

That automatic setting matters more than it sounds. HubSpot states that automatic enrichment is turned off by default for both contacts and companies, so a portal that has never been configured is doing no enrichment at all, whatever the plan includes. Plenty of teams discover this months after paying for it.

If you want the broader concept rather than the HubSpot mechanics, our guide to what data enrichment is covers the types, the sources, and the process end to end. The rest of this article stays inside HubSpot.

Does HubSpot Data Enrichment Cost Extra in 2026?

Enrichment used to be something you metered; it isn't anymore, and the shift is recent enough that most advice on the topic is still written for the old model.

Between 2 and 15 June 2025, Breeze Intelligence Credits transitioned into the general HubSpot Credits pool, at conversion rates of 100 Breeze Credits to 3,000 HubSpot Credits and 10,000 Breeze Credits to 125,000 HubSpot Credits.

Shortly afterwards, the enrichment feature itself came out of the meter entirely. HubSpot now states plainly that data enrichment does not consume HubSpot Credits, and its product and services catalog lists "enriched data" among the things a Core Seat grants, alongside the Smart CRM and Breeze Assistant, at $20 a seat on Starter, $50 on Professional, and $75 on Enterprise.

The same catalog prices the Prospecting Agent at 100 credits per lead recommendation and additional credits at $0.010 each, which puts a hard number on it roughly a dollar per recommendation. While enrichment sits outside that.

So the question to take into your 2026 planning is no longer whether to pay for data enrichment; HubSpot now bundles it with the seat. The question is what that included layer writes to a record, and the answer is narrower than the marketing suggests.

What Fields Does HubSpot Contact Enrichment Fill In?

HubSpot publishes the exact fields it will populate, which makes this easy to check rather than guess. The enrichable property list splits cleanly in two.

On the contact record: HubSpot enriches First Name, Last Name, Job Title, Employment Role, Employment Sub Role, Employment Seniority, City, State or Region, Country, the matching region codes, a social profile URL, and the two properties that track enrichment opt-outs.

On the company record: It enriches Company name, Annual revenue, Revenue range, Number of employees, Employee range, Industry, Industry group, Description, Company keywords, Web Technologies, Total Money Raised, Year founded, Is public, Phone number, Street Address, Postal code, City, State or Region, Country, the matching region codes, Website URL, company domain name, and the company's social pages.

Read the first list again and notice what is absent. There is no email address property and no phone number property on the contact side. HubSpot's dataset is large, with over 100 million company domains and 380 million email addresses indexed, and enrichment typically returns in seconds. None of that changes which fields it is willing to write back to a contact.

The company object is where the bundled layer earns its keep. Web Technologies and Total Money Raised in particular are properties you would otherwise buy a technographics tool for, and they are strong enough to build segments and lead scores on.

Why Does HubSpot Enrichment Leave Contacts Unreachable?

There is a precondition in HubSpot's documentation that decides most of this. Contacts must have a business email address before they will be enriched, and personal addresses such as Gmail or Yahoo are skipped. Companies must have a company domain name.

Put that next to the property list, and the shape of the tool becomes clear. The record has to arrive already carrying the one field an outbound team is short of, and enrichment will not hand it back. Native enrichment finishes a contact you can already reach, and it will not produce one you cannot.

That has a direct consequence for how you report on it. A fill rate of 90% across your enriched properties tells you nothing about pipeline if every one of those contacts was already emailable, because they had to be.

The number worth putting on a dashboard is the share of contacts in your target segment carrying a verified email or a direct dial, measured before and after whatever you bought. It belongs alongside the rest of the sales performance metrics your team already reviews.

There's a practical ceiling too. HubSpot caps bulk enrolment at 100 records at a time from an index page, so a backlog of 40,000 unenriched contacts is a workflow job rather than an afternoon of clicking.

Marc García, Head of Outbound SDRs at Factorial, put the cost of the gap in call terms. "When you call someone, any mistake in the first few seconds of the conversation kills engagement. And our data quality was failing us."

How Do You Set Up Data Enrichment in HubSpot?

Setting this up takes under an hour, and the order matters, because two of these steps are much harder to undo once records start flowing. Work through them in sequence.

  • Confirm your seat type and permissions: enrichment configuration needs Super Admin access, and the enriched data entitlement rides on a Core Seat. Check both before you promise anyone a date.

  • Audit the properties you already write to: HubSpot writes to its own enrichment properties, which may not be the ones your workflows, lists, and reports read from. Map them now, or you'll spend a quarter wondering why a lead score never moves.

  • Turn on automatic enrichment deliberately, one object at a time: start with companies. Company enrichment is the stronger half and carries less personal data risk, so it's the safer place to learn what the dataset returns for your market.

  • Backfill in controlled batches: with the 100-record index page cap, use a workflow rather than manual enrolment for anything over a few hundred records, and sample the output of the first batch before releasing the rest.

  • Add the third-party layer only where you measured a gap: run the reachability number from the previous section first. Buying a second tool before you know which field is missing is how teams end up paying twice for firmographics.

  • Write the governance rules down: decide which source wins when two providers disagree on job title, and who is allowed to overwrite an enriched field manually.

Steps one to four are configuration and take an afternoon. Step five is the purchase decision, and the next two sections are about getting it right.

Which Data Enrichment Tools for HubSpot Do You Need?

Search for data enrichment tools for HubSpot, and you'll get ranked lists of a dozen vendors with no explanation of which job each one is doing. There are only four jobs, and most teams need two of them.

  • Contact discovery: finding a verified work email or a direct dial for a person you can name but cannot reach. This is the job the bundled layer does not do, and it's what most teams are actually shopping for. Our roundup of B2B email finder tools covers this category on its own.

  • Firmographic and technographic depth: revenue, headcount, industry, and installed technology. HubSpot's bundled layer covers this well for most segments, and a second provider here is usually duplicate spend.

  • Intent and timing signals: funding rounds, hiring activity, leadership changes, and technology switches. None of it sits in the bundled enrichment properties, and it's the layer that decides when you reach out rather than who. Our guide to B2B buying signals breaks down which ones predict a purchase.

  • Verification and hygiene: confirming an address still resolves before you send to it. Enrichment writes a value; verification tells you whether it's still true. The two get conflated constantly, and email verification tools are a separate purchase from enrichment providers.

Researching an account before a call, summarising its news and working out an angle, is a different job from looking a field up in a database, and our guide to AI sales research covers where that line sits.

Which of these you need depends on the prospecting methods your team already runs. Single provider coverage is the trap in the first category. Any one database has holes in specific regions and seniority bands, which is why waterfall enrichment exists, querying providers in sequence until one returns a verified result rather than accepting the first blank.

Our comparison of CRM data enrichment tools ranks the vendors in this space if you want the head-to-head.

How Do You Choose a HubSpot Data Enrichment Tool?

Compare vendors on whether they close the specific gap you measured. Take this into the vendor call and ask the questions in the middle column, in this order. The pass and fail conditions are yours to apply, not the salesperson's.

Two rows carry most of the weight. If a vendor won't run a sample of your own records, you're buying their marketing rather than their data, and if a miss costs the same as a hit, your effective price per usable contact is far above the rate card. Everything else is negotiable.

Is HubSpot Data Enrichment GDPR Compliant in the UK?

Enrichment is lawful in the UK, and it carries an obligation most teams running it have never actioned. Treat this as general guidance rather than legal advice, and put it to your own DPO.

The moment you enrich a contact, you've obtained personal data about a person from a source that isn't that person. The ICO's guidance on the right to be informed sets out what follows.

You must provide privacy information "within a reasonable period of obtaining the personal data and no later than one month", or if you use the data to contact the person, "at the latest, when the first communication takes place". That information has to include "the source of the personal data".

In practice, that means your first outbound email to an enriched contact is the deadline, and your privacy notice has to say where their details came from. Naming enrichment as a source in your privacy policy, and linking it from your outreach footer, covers most of it.

HubSpot runs the other side of this itself. Its enrichment opt-out notices documentation explains that individuals can ask HubSpot to stop using their professional details, after which HubSpot removes them from its enrichment systems and notifies accounts that previously received enrichment data for that contact.

Values already in your CRM stay put; future updates stop, and the record gets an enrichment opt-out property. Build a suppression rule on that property, because a record that stops updating while your sequences keep running is the worst of both.

How Often Should You Refresh HubSpot Enrichment Data?

Quarterly for company records, monthly for contacts in an active sequence. The reason is arithmetic rather than preference.

HubSpot's own database decay research cites Marketing Sherpa's finding that B2B data decays at a rate of 2.1% per month, an annualised rate of 22.5%. On a 50,000-contact database, that's roughly 1,050 records going wrong every month, and you cannot see which ones by looking. People change jobs, companies get acquired, and domains get retired, all silently.

That decay rate is also why a one-off backfill feels like a success and then quietly stops working. Six months after a clean import, more than one record in eight is wrong, and the reps who find out are the ones on the phone.

Automatic enrichment handles new records, so the refresh discipline only has to cover the back catalogue, and the practical move is a recurring workflow that re-enrols records whose last enrichment date is older than your chosen interval.

Keeping bad addresses out of your sends also protects your sender reputation, which is a separate discipline covered in our guide to email deliverability.

How Does Enginy Handle HubSpot Contact Enrichment?

Enginy sits on the contact side of the split, which is the half HubSpot's bundled layer leaves open. Two capabilities do the work.

For reach, Enginy runs waterfall enrichment across providers, checking 30+ data providers in sequence to find the most accurate email and phone number rather than accepting the first blank, then verifying emails automatically to protect deliverability. That's the field HubSpot needs you to already have.

For timing, intent signals track leadership and role changes, funding events and news mentions, and hiring activity, none of which appear in HubSpot's enrichable properties. Where a record needs context rather than a field, AI research variables enrich every account from a prompt, and new accounts come from prospect search rather than from your existing CRM.

Enriched records and the signals attached to them flow back through a two-way CRM sync that keeps Enginy and HubSpot aligned with instant updates, so reps work from HubSpot and never touch a CSV. HubSpot sits in the CRM integrations list alongside Salesforce, Pipedrive, Dynamics and Zoho, and setup is documented in the Enginy help centre.

Factorial ran into exactly this problem. Data quality was failing calls, and lead generation needed one full-time person for every six or seven SDRs. After centralising prospecting through Enginy, reply rates moved from 10% to 45%, conversion on deals Enginy touched went from 4% to 8%, and the team went from ten leads a day to 5,000 a month.

If your records already carry verified work emails and you only need firmographics and technographics, the bundled HubSpot layer is enough, and a second tool is money you don't need to spend. The case for adding one starts where your reachability number is low.

Ready to Fill the Gaps in Your HubSpot Data?

HubSpot's bundled enrichment does a decent job of describing the companies and people already in your CRM, and it won't hand you a working email or a direct dial for the ones you cannot reach yet, which is where most outbound targets sit.

Enginy covers that half. Waterfall enrichment across 30+ providers for verified emails and phones, intent signals for timing, and a two-way sync so everything lands back in HubSpot without a CSV. It suits outbound teams with structured SDR functions who want the whole motion in one place, and who don't want to hire a GTM engineer to run it.

"I didn't believe a 45% reply rate was possible in cold outreach. Then we x2 our meetings booked and our SDRs saved 4h per day," says Jordi Romero, CEO and Founder at Factorial.

FAQs About HubSpot Data Enrichment

Does HubSpot have built-in data enrichment?

HubSpot has built-in data enrichment, included in Core Seats on Starter, Professional, and Enterprise, and it does not consume HubSpot Credits. It matches contacts on first name, last name, and work email address, and companies on domain. Automatic enrichment is turned off by default for both objects, so a Super Admin has to switch it on. Manual enrichment is capped at 100 records at a time from an index page.

Does HubSpot data enrichment find email addresses and phone numbers?

HubSpot data enrichment does not find contact email addresses or contact phone numbers. Its enrichable contact properties cover name, job title, employment role, seniority, location, and a social profile URL, with no email or phone field among them. A company-level phone number is available on the company object. A contact must already have a business email address before HubSpot will enrich it, so the record needs the field before the process runs.

How much does HubSpot data enrichment cost?

HubSpot data enrichment costs nothing beyond the seat, because it's bundled into Core Seats priced at $20 a month on Starter, $50 on Professional, and $75 on Enterprise. HubSpot's documentation states that enrichment does not consume HubSpot Credits. Other Breeze features still meter, with the Prospecting Agent at 100 credits per lead recommendation and additional credits at $0.010 each. Third-party tools are a separate spend on top.

What's the difference between HubSpot enrichment and Breeze?

HubSpot enrichment is the property-filling feature bundled into Core Seats, while Breeze is the wider AI layer covering the assistant, agents, and buyer intent. Breeze Intelligence Credits transitioned into the general HubSpot Credits pool between 2 and 15 June 2025. Enrichment came out of the meter; agent actions did not. Buyer intent and form shortening still sit on the credit model.

What are the best data enrichment tools for HubSpot?

The best data enrichment tools for HubSpot are the ones covering the job your bundled layer leaves open, which for most outbound teams is contact discovery rather than firmographics. Measure your share of contacts carrying a verified email or direct dial first, then shortlist against that gap. Ask any vendor to run 100 of your own records before you buy. Paying a second provider for revenue and headcount data you already get in the seat is the most common duplicate spend.

How do I enrich contacts in HubSpot in bulk?

Enrich contacts in HubSpot in bulk by using a workflow rather than the index page, which caps manual enrolment at 100 records at a time. Turn on automatic enrichment so new records are handled on creation, then backfill the existing database in batches. Sample the output of the first batch before releasing the rest, since HubSpot writes to its own enrichment properties rather than any custom fields your reports read from.

Is HubSpot data enrichment GDPR compliant?

HubSpot data enrichment can be used compliantly in the UK, and the obligation sits with you rather than HubSpot. The ICO requires privacy information within a reasonable period and no later than one month of obtaining personal data from another source, or at the first communication if that comes sooner, including the source of the data. HubSpot maintains an opt-out for its enrichment dataset, and flags opted-out contacts with a dedicated property. Build a suppression rule on that property.

Is a second enrichment tool duplicate spend on top of HubSpot?

A second enrichment tool is duplicate spend when you buy it for firmographics, and it isn't when you buy it for reachability. HubSpot's bundled layer covers revenue, headcount, industry, and installed technology well, so a provider sold on that overlaps with something already in your seat. The gap is contact level, where there's no email or phone property at all. Run the reachability number on your target segment before you buy anything.
